Back to our site after the hurricane

We made it back to our sites Saturday after surviving a hurricane in a post 9/11 bomb shelter, a fire in our hotel and being sworn=in as official Peace Corps volunteers. There was very little damage at Nurse's house. She lost a few banana trees and sugar cane in the front yard. Piped water finally came back on Sunday afternoon - this was never a problem as she has a water tank that she keeps filled (see picture above). JPS (Jamaican Power Services) was able to restore enough power to the water pumping station so it can get water to residents who were in need of it. They are still having issues with this as the required voltage is too low to fulfill all their obligations. Nurse still doesn't have power and we hope it to get it shortly. We've been doing our best without current - we have used our Peace Corps issued lanterns and Nurse has a gas stove. We had fresh chicken last night for dinner as Babs butchered a chicken in the morning. That's about it, will write when I get a chance. Until then check out this video.
