What's It Going To Be Today

Alright, so things are slow here in Peace Corps Jamaica, really slow. It's taken about 6 months but I believe I am starting to be able to cope with this. After coming from a culture where there is a need to accomplish something every day it is very frustrating. But I don't accomplish NOTHING, just not something that is grand. I keep on having to tell myself that if I spent 3 hours doing my wash, I sharpened my machette or read for 2 hours, I still accomplished something, just not what I used to accomplish back home in the states.

I recently noticed the amazing view of the sky at night here in Jamaica. There is very little light pollution here and the stars are just breathtaking. Not only are the stars brighter, but you can see more of them. Little things like this help keep things going down here.

btw, Happy New Year to all!!!

p.s. Oh yeah, that's another thing (tnx S & C), time seems to stand still here. Since there aren't seasons in the tropics, besides of course rainy seasons, there is no conception of time here. At least not in the sense us from the states are accustomed to. Besides having a 8 week spat with rain occurring almost every day, the weather has virtually stayed the same. The temperature hasn't deviated much from 85ºF and the sun shines on a daily basis. Because of this, it has felt like summer here for the whole 6 months we have been on the island. There has been a "x-mas" breeze that has kicked in about a month ago and has been nice and helped with the heat.
