Books Not Bombs

If you were to look at the wealth (budget) of the Pentagon it would be the 10th richest nation in the world. What's more, if you add up the total cost of the military expenditures around the world it would be less than the US Defense budget alone - approximately $750,000,000,000. Yes, that's 10 zeros on the end. Bush also wants to cut funding for education by $4 billion and cut Medicare $182.7 billion over 5 years. We may not be educated or healthy, but we'll certainly be safe.

Scott. Very eye opening stats. It amazes me that in a country that has so much, education and medical care have fallen to such a low priority.

We had all three kids in private school up till this year. The transition to public has been much easier then we thought. Overall we are very happy with the public education they are getting. What has amazed me though is the cut backs on Art and Music.

I know many people think these classes are not important but when we were kids we had both at school. They were manditory like Gym. They helped so many kids that may not have been the top in the academic classes feel successful. These classes also helped to expand the part of the brain that is not worked through traditional learning.

We have decided to supplement what the kids don't get in school through outside classes. All three of them love music and after reading this and laughing they wanted me to tell you that their favorite song is "Hey Mr. President" by Pink. If you have not heard it or even if you don't like her it is worth a listen. She is accompanied by the Indigo Girls and it is a pretty left wing song.

Pete and I are training them early to question their government and never settle for the party line.

In response to Brandon's Safe? Nowhere in the world is safe anymore isn't it just a relative term at this point?

Keep up the good work Scott.
