Blue Mountain Hike March 2008

Can you say coffee?!? Yes, we finally did the Blue Mtn hike this weekend from Mavis Bank. We almost didn't make it as it rained on Saturday morning pretty heavily. We decided to proceed about 10 hours later. We started at 10:00 pm and hiked 11 miles ascending to 7450 feet (the highest point in the English speaking Caribbean) through the night to make it to the peak at about 5:41 am. Due to cloud cover we missed the sunrise, but eventually the fog and clouds burned off and we got some great views. Unfortunately we didn't see Cuba, but it was still great.

On the way down you realize what you miss by walking through the night. You hike passed the coffee farms that grow the famous Blue Mountain coffee. I was able to purchase a pound for $J700 (about $US10), which is quite the deal.

Because some of us were hurting (bad knees and such) we decided to catch a free ride from a friend of JJ's back down to her house. It was a good decision as we saved ourselves about 5 miles.

Thanks for getting hooked on the blog thing. I bet the views are amazing. Pete and I had some nice views like that a few years ago in the Mountains of Virginia while we were hunting. Above the clouds and the sunrise is a sight to see, pretty cool. Hope you guys are well.
