This past Sunday I competed in my first ever triathlon. The Treasure Beach triathlon running in its 13th year was started by a Peace Corps volunteer. Three of us competed on the team, in which I rode the bike portion. I am proud to say that we had the only Peace Corps team with Jamaican on the team. C. from Peace Corps staff did the running portion for us. Wrapping up the team we had Pablo do the swimming for us.
The 15 mile (25k) biking portion was tough with a difficult uphill section about 5 miles into the leg. I thought I'd be able to bike the entire way but I lost momentum when my rear tire lost air. Fortunately JJ stopped for me and I used her pump to get going again. It was wonderful and beautiful ride through the countryside of St. Elizabeth. I finished my portion in 1 hour 4 minutes. Overall we finished towards the end of the pack.
UPDATE: Here are the results http://jaaaltd.com/results/jakes08/, we finished in 43rd out of 53 teams.
