After 18 years the JLP has won an election, albeit by the slimmest of margins - 31 seats to the PNP's 29. There are a few seats that are being contested; one being a seat that in Central Manchester. This is the closest of Jamaica's 15 elections since it achieved Universal Adult Suffrage in 1944. It was quite exciting for us as we listened to the results in our new apartment with the radio (I just got out of customs) on the bed. A few seats will be taken to the courts due to alleged voter fraud. This inevitably has caused the PNP's Portia Simpson Miller (Sista P and current prime minister) to not concede defeat quite yet. Because of the uncertainty the Peace Corps has asked us to hang low for another day or two.
